Where to Stay near Malioboro

On the street for atmosphere, a lane away for sleep, or across town for a pool and quiet.

Staying on or near Malioboro puts the station, the street, the market and the evening food within walking distance, and every tour will pick you up. The trade-off is noise and crowds, especially at weekends and during holidays.

On and around Malioboro you can choose from grand heritage hotels, modern four-star towers and plain budget rooms; the lanes of Sosrowijayan add dozens of guesthouses too small for booking platforms’ star ratings. Elsewhere in Yogyakarta, Prawirotaman offers boutique hotels and cafés south of the Kraton, while the east and north of the city have resort-style five-stars with space and big pools.

Booking tips

  • July, August, the Eid week and the year-end holidays fill the best central hotels. Book a month or more ahead for those dates.
  • During the evening pedestrian hours, cars reach hotels on Malioboro by side streets — tell your driver the hotel name, not just “Malioboro”.
  • For sunrise tours, ask the hotel for a breakfast box the night before.
  • Check whether the pool, if you want one, is outdoors and open in the evening.
  • Other well-known chains, including Ibis, also have hotels on or beside the street; search the full Trip.com list if your favourite is not shown here.
